Position Description: A full-time physician to serve as Medical Director and practice medicine in a comprehensive primary care setting that includes the provision of HIV primary and specialty care, obstetrics, psychiatric medicine, dentistry, internal medicine, and family practice who genuinely cares for the provision of comprehensive primary health care to all persons regardless of their ability to pay or cultural affinity.

Job Functions: Duties include, but are not limited to, directing and coordinating primary care for all patients. Supervising staff physicians and mid-level providers including the evaluation of performance, knowledge, and skills; the coordination of the CQI committee, peer-review, credentialing, multidisciplinary case conferences at MCHS and its affiliated program sites. As a full-time position duties are allocated approximately 60% to direct patient care, 20% to administration, and 20% to collaboration with federal, state, and local health care agencies to establish a seamless, non-duplicative system of accessible community health care.

Requirements: Licensed to practice medicine in the State of North Carolina, Board certified family practice, internal medicine, or obstetrics. Five years medical experience beyond Residency of which at least two-years involved the delivery of medical care in a rural setting. Previous experience in a federally funded community health center, strongly desired.

Staff: The professional staff consists of a family practice physician, an internal medicine HIV specialist physician, dentist, and two mid-level providers. Support staff includes case managers, health educators, medical office assistants, and administrative and billing personnel.

The Community: Washington, North Carolina located in eastern North Carolina, offers a quiet family oriented lifestyle and an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, golf and equestrian activities. Washington is a charming southern waterfront town with a population of 10,000 people situated in Beaufort County consisting of about 45,000 people.

Target Population Served: The clinic serves a broad cross-section of residents from Beaufort, Martin, and Pamlico counties including African and Native Americans, Hispanic immigrants and seasonal workers, low income and uninsured persons.
